Gender Affirming Care
Gender affirming care, from your community.
“If I hadn’t been an OT, I wouldn’t have known that.”
Rowan heard themselves saying this statement over and over again throughout their transition. Whether it was navigating a confusing medical and social service systems, doing scar care after top surgery, or being able to use fine and gross motor tips & tricks to help them put on gender affirming clothes, being an OT was often what saved them from complications or filled in the blanks to help them access even the smallest experiences that gave them gender euphoria that would last for days.
So when it was time to decide what services Self-Made Rehab would offer, gender-affirming care was the first thing that came to mind. Medical treatment like hormones or surgery often jumps to people’s minds when they first think of transition. However, transition also often involves everyday activities like getting dressed, doing your hair and make-up, going to work, making friends, and more. At Self-Made Rehab, we believe that occupational therapy is the perfect discipline to address all the various challenges and possibilities transition brings, no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’ the task.

At Self-Made Rehab, we base our gender affirming care process on the principle of self-determination, making our process 100% client-led. We use a ‘whole-person’ approach to help you identify the barriers to your transition goals. This way, you can achieve the most positive, smoothest transition journey that looks exactly how you want it to.
